At the heart of this piece sits a glass bottle, given a second life beneath layers of hand-sculpted air-dry clay. A small contribution to a circular way of making, where nothing useful is discarded.
Built up by hand, this vessel carries the quiet, unhurried peace of an early Whitby morning. Sweeping, carved textures wrap around the form, mimicking the rugged coastal cliffs and the gentle pull of the tide. Real seashells were pressed directly into the wet clay to print their delicate patterns onto the surface, serving as a tactile reminder of the shore. Nestled into this sculpted landscape is a tiny row of cottages, echoing the town's iconic harbour-side homes clinging to the slopes.
To capture the mood of the sea before the town wakes, we painted the surface with a blend of Derwent Graphitint paint from Keswick and soft acrylics. Pale morning blues, muted sea-greys, and silvery tones wash over the surface. Finished with a protective water-based sealer.
Usage: Specifically designed to display dried stems, sprigs, or coastal grasses.
Care: Because the exterior is sculpted from air-dry clay, we do not recommend any direct contact with water. Please keep the vessel dry to preserve its sculpted details and hand-painted finish.
Important Note Photos are for illustrative purposes only and may show the piece styled with flowers, crystals or other decorative items. These additional elements are not included with the purchase.
